Conservation genomics of the Endangered North Atlantic right whale

Ojas Gitai

Masters Candidate

As a Master of Marine Management candidate at Dalhousie University, my upbringing in the desert state of India didn't deter my early fascination with oceans and ships, which ignited a profound passion for marine environments. After earning my bachelor's degree in marine engineering in 2016, I embarked on a seven-year journey as a merchant naval engineering officer, accruing invaluable experience at sea.

Driven by my dedication to ocean sustainability, I transitioned into academia to contribute to conservation and sustainability efforts. For my graduate project, I am focusing on supporting the GE3LS program by gathering data on collaboration, compiling information on participants in multi-stakeholder and rightsholder committees, and utilizing social network analysis to develop a collaboration network matrix of groups involved in North Atlantic right whale conservation.

Outside of work, I cherish spending time with family and find solace in swimming to unwind. I also enjoy listening to music as a way to relax and recharge.
