Conservation genomics of the Endangered North Atlantic right whale

FISHERIES AND OCEAN CANADA

I am a Research Scientist at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. I am keenly interested in conservation science and combining ecology and policy within a rigorous quantitative framework to address conservation issues. My research is focused on the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale, and I specifically investigate distribution, movement, and features of important habitat; assess risk from human activities including commercial fishing and shipping; and test technologies for the near real-time detection of North Atlantic right whales. As part of the Conservation Genomics of the Endangered North Atlantic right whale project I am looking forward to using the results of this research to advise conservation priorities and policies for the protection of right whales in Canadian waters.
